Who are you, Kitchener?
Thank you for participating in the Who-are-you-Kitchener? public consultation process. Because of your participation, this was one of the largest, most inclusive citizen engagement processes in Kitchener’s history - and one of the most extensive such processes among Canadian municipalities.

The first phase of consultations has now wrapped up and results were recently presented to City Council. Through this dynamic and interactive process, nearly 2,000 residents provided comments on their vision for Kitchener's future. You shared everything from what you like - and don't like - about the city; to what you believe City priorities should be for the future and what you are willing to spend more tax dollars on.

Through the process:

  • 51 citizens attended ward public meetings
  • 147 citizens participated in workshops through community associations or clubs
  • 194 high school students participated through civics classes
  • 202 citizens participated through workshops specifically designed for New Canadians
  • 469 workbooks were completed
  • 7,255 visits to the Who-are-you-Kitchener? website
  • 1,760 vision charts were completed

The Who-are-you-Kitchener? campaign was led by the Compass Kitchener citizens’ advisory committee. It was a grassroots citizen engagement process made up of two phases including: the Environics Survey (done in spring 2005) and the public consultations (completed January to May, 2006). Objectives of the process included: producing a report card, based solely on citizen input, for City Council on the City’s performance; confirming a citizens’ vision for the community and creating an identity statement for the community.

The second phase and third phases of the Who-are-you-Kitchener? process, which will take place later this year, will focus on the City’s growth management strategy and creating a three-year strategic financial plan, respectively. Stay tuned for more details!
