  Background
Compass Kitchener together with city staff, launched the first Who-are-you-Kitchener? campaign in 2006 with the intent of bringing residents together to discuss their vision for the future of the city and how it could be achieved.

The first campaign, like the 2010 campaign, was built on the results of the Environics survey which was conducted with Kitchener residents in the spring of 2005 PDF – and again in late 2009 PDF.

The 2006 campaign was highly successful, becoming one of the largest community consultations in the city’s history – with more than 2,000 residents taking the time to share their thoughts.

You shared everything from what you like - and don't like - about the city; to what you believe City priorities should be for the future and what you are willing to spend more tax dollars on. And that feedback was instrumental in developing a shared vision and shared community priorities for the future of the city.

Today, that vision and those community priorities are at the heart of the City of Kitchener Strategic Plan  – the single, comprehensive framework that directs the work and spending of city government and ensures that city staff continue to deliver key results in areas that citizens believe are critical to our city’s health and vitality.
