Similar to the first campaign, the 2010 WAYK2 campaign builds on the results of an Environics survey, an extensive community survey conducted by an expert Canadian market research consultant.
Conducted through the mail and online in late 2009, the guiding purpose of the survey – which 900 residents participated in – is to continue to engage citizens in planning the city’s future.
The results of the 2009 Environics survey were benchmarked against the results of the 2005 survey largely to determine whether your satisfaction in regards to city government and city services had improved over this term of Council.
Results from the 2009 survey indicate that overall, Kitchener residents' are largely satisfied with the strategic direction of the city and with the services provided by their municipal government. In fact, your satisfaction ratings – compared to the 2005 survey – increased almost right across the board.
General findings of the 2009 survey:
As in 2005, the results of the 2009 Environics survey are fascinating and they have become the springboard for WAYK2 – for asking more questions, clarifying survey results and probing deeper into the community priorities and the work that citizens see as important to the city’s future.
It is important to note that the 2009 survey sample of nearly 900 residents is a statistically accurate representation of the demographic make-up of the city - meaning that the results of the survey can be generalized to the rest of the city's population with significant accuracy.
