Unlike traditional demographic research typically done by other municipalities, the 2005 Environics survey used a unique research model to probe citizens' social values, including: your world view, expectancies, perceptions, habits of thought and attitudes.
Through analyzing this information, the results of the 2005 Environics survey showed that the city of Kitchener has six general segments of the population, made up of people with similar and related social values.
The city did not re-survey citizens about social values in 2009 however because these population segments were determined based on social values, the segments themselves are not likely to change because residents’ core social values generally don’t change over time. A growing population would mean however, that the number of residents within each segment may change.
